Cognitive Relativism

It is not the case that everything is true and good, or false and bad, simply according to one’s preference, as the Sophists claimed. It’s not that simple—let’s take a closer look.

In science, a theory remains valid as long as it is verified and not falsified by experiments (to simplify as much as possible). This means there is no absolute truth, but rather a truth that holds until it is disproven. So, it is not a matter of everything being both true and false.

In other fields—politics, ethics, education, art, and many others—definitive experiments are not possible, and everyone forms their own judgment. However, each person can present arguments and considerations to support their thesis.

So, while it is true that anyone can say anything, their claims must then be argued and supported by reasoning.
