Number of Casualties in Gaza
We do not know the exact number of casualties in Gaza. However, we can estimate the scale of the figures: for Gaza, the number is in the tens of thousands—perhaps between 60,000 and 80,000.
Now, we can compare this with other conflicts in the region and in recent times. Take, for example, the little-known Houthi conflict: estimates from the UN suggest casualties in the hundreds of thousands, possibly around 600,000.
Consider Lebanon, Syria, government crackdowns in Egypt, the Iran-Iraq war, and the endless massacres by ISIS. For example, during the bombings of Mosul alone, 40,000 people died out of a population of 600,000—proportionally three or four times the casualties in Gaza. Has anyone ever heard much about this? Were there university faculty occupations in protest?
This is not meant to downplay the gravity of events in Palestine but rather to provide a sense of proportionality.
