International Tribunals

I am very skeptical about the role of international tribunals.

It’s one thing when dealing with a robber or a murderer—no problem there. But in the case of someone like Al-Masri, for example, he is indeed the head of a horrific prison where terrible things happen. That’s true. However, consider that prisons across the Middle East, Africa, and much of the Third World operate in the same way—so why not arrest all their directors? Think about what happened to Regeni in Egypt, the massacres in Syria.

Why arrest only Al-Masri and not the leaders of Tripoli? On the other hand, why do we Westerners assume the right to impose our principles on countries that do not wish to accept them?

Can we really believe that certain individuals appointed as judges are truly capable of judging historical events?
