Migrants and
Humanitarian Principles
The problem is that it is difficult to turn away migrants without violating our own laws and, above all, our humanitarian principles.
A naval blockade would be enough: using force to prevent migrant boats from entering our territorial waters. Just a few interventions would be necessary; there would be casualties—though far fewer than those occurring now—and illegal immigration would come to an abrupt halt.
But no government would ever do such a thing—who could ever open fire on migrants?!
