IRA and Gaza
The Irish were a group seeking to secede from the state to which they belonged (like the Basques or Catalans). Gaza, on the other hand, consists of people who are not Israeli citizens; no one thinks they will become such. In practice, Gaza is an independent state entity engaged in conflict with Israel, driven by the dream of destroying it with the help of the Almighty. It is a war between two states, where the weaker attacks the stronger in the hope that the world will intervene on its behalf, though this hope is in vain.
It is true that, historically, they have suffered an unjust aggression—there is no doubt about that. However, refusing to accept the status quo only leads from one catastrophe to another; this is the core issue. The situation is fundamentally different from that of the Irish. The Irish wanted to secede from England, but they certainly did not aim to destroy England. By creating enough problems, sooner or later, the English might withdraw—which, in fact, eventually happened.
