Arabs and Computers
It is sometimes said that the Arabs
invented zero, and without it, the computer would not exist—implying that, in a
way, they enabled its invention.
However, aside from the fact that zero was originally an Indian discovery later
adopted by the Arabs, inventing zero alone was not enough to create the
computer. After all, we had zero for over a thousand years before computers
emerged.
We should not overstate the importance of certain discoveries, which are merely
part of a long chain of countless other advancements.
