The Power of Mass Media
The idea that advertising can force
consumers or that mass media can control people is far from reality. In fact, it
is people who influence mass media, and advertising is effective only when it
aligns with what people want to hear.
This idea emerges when reality does not match what we wish for, leading us to
claim that reality is distorted, rather than acknowledging that our perception
of reality is flawed.
For example, it’s not that consumerism is imposed by some dark force; rather, it
is we who prefer consumerism over austerity.
