Alienation at Work

I never really understood why work done in a state-owned company should be more or less alienating than work done in a private company or for oneself.
Of course, there are jobs where we more easily feel fulfilled, such as teaching, and others where we feel like mere cogs in a (alienating) mechanism, like the famous assembly line.
However, it’s not that teaching in a private, public, or independent school makes any difference in terms of satisfaction. Similarly, if I'm on the assembly line (which no longer exists), I don’t see a difference whether the factory is privately owned, state-owned, or even my own.
What can change is the pay and the well-being that comes with it.
