Collective Bargaining
It's not possible to impose high wages and
benefits by law; otherwise, it would be enough to pass laws to make everyone
prosperous: it would be so easy.
However, wage adjustments to match the real possibilities of productivity are
not automatic. Without collective bargaining, which is then given legal value,
it would be difficult for employers to increase wages spontaneously.
Of course, if an employer wants a famous singer, they have to pay a lot, but
they can easily find an electrician (or farmworker, or driver) at a low cost if
bargaining is left entirely free.
In practice, collective bargaining—and thus the state—protects the poorest, as
it is in the nature of society to do so.
