Marx and the State of the West
In our Western world, the state manages
over 40% of the GDP, used for social purposes.
In a way, this is the realization of Marx's principle of "giving according to
one's ability and receiving according to one's need," but the giving is not
voluntary—it comes through taxation.
Thus, we can say that giving and receiving are proportionate to income.
No one likes paying taxes, but without them, not only would there be no fair
redistribution of wealth, but without buyers, there would be no production
either.
Paradoxically, if the rich paid fewer taxes, they would end up being less
wealthy.
