Solidarity
Solidarity, once referred to as charity,
depends on personal sensitivity. Some people only think of their own interests,
while others feel empathy towards the less fortunate. Charity is practiced not
by everyone, but by some among the poor, the well-off, and the very wealthy,
each according to their means: little by the poor, more by the well-off, and a
great deal by the very wealthy.
It would be a mistake to think that solidarity is the exclusive domain of the
rich, the poor, or the middle class: we are all human and we all have our vices
and virtues.
