End of World War II
By 1943, the war was absolutely and irrevocably lost. In the following two years,
the Germans defended themselves to the extreme, but none of the battles had an
uncertain outcome: they were all doomed from the start and indeed were all lost,
from the Salerno landing to the final defense of Berlin.
Thus, millions of people died unnecessarily; in fact, the majority of the
victims were during that period.
