What is Democracy?
In our systems, it means that the government is elected by the citizens, but in a climate of free thought, without which elections are meaningless. However, sometimes an additional meaning is added: what is left-wing is considered democratic, while what is right-wing is not, which contradicts the first meaning. For example, gay marriage is considered democratic, while closing borders to migrants is not. But until the 1950s in England, homosexuality was a serious crime, yet England is considered the cradle of democracy. Similarly, the strictest measures against immigration are found in Australia, but no one doubts that it is a democracy. Likewise, real communism and dreamed anarchism are certainly not democratic, yet they are left-wing.
