The British and Palestine

The British had only a mandate from the United Nations to govern Palestine for a certain period of time, while the inhabitants had a natural right: they could not assign it to whomever they wanted. On the other hand, they never assigned it to the Jews, who actually fought against the British with attacks (the infamous bloody one at the King David Hotel). Unable to resolve the conflict between Jews and Arabs, they preferred to withdraw, leading to the Arab-Israeli war.
