Mussolini had promised victories on land, at sea, and in the air, but instead,
due to a lack of resources, preparation, and organization, the Italians lost on
land, at sea, and in the air. He spoke of 5 million bayonets when the war was
actually being fought with tanks, airplanes, aircraft carriers, and radar, which
we did not have: we were even marching on foot through deserts and frozen
steppes
