Success of the Right
The migrant who settles for less and has fewer demands can be an asset for the
wealthy classes, but is a formidable competitor for the less affluent: think,
for example, of cleaners or caregivers, now almost all foreigners; an Italian
isn't even considered anymore.
Now, the left outwardly supports immigration ideologically, while the right
opposes it just as strongly. So, is it surprising that in Parioli (an affluent
neighborhood in Rome) people vote more to the left, and in Garbatella (a
working-class neighborhood) more to the right?
A similar argument applies to globalization: Trump, though inadequate, owes his
success precisely to his restraint of globalization and 'America First' (which,
in reality, has also been followed by Biden).
