Greater Israel
There is a great deal of confusion about this concept. The expression is found
in Genesis when God vaguely promises Abraham the land between the Nile and the
Euphrates. About the kingdom of Israel, we know what the Bible tells us, but we
have no historical evidence, which means it must have been quite insignificant.
It had a short duration, and then there was direct or indirect rule by the
Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks, and Romans. The various kings we read about in
the Gospels were trustees of the Romans who chose them. Currently, Greater
Israel refers to the claim of the most radical Jews who would like to annex even
the occupied territories.
