 Democracies and Dictatorships

 It is commonly and erroneously thought that non-democratic countries are dictatorships; however, in fact, there are many non-democratic political regimes. "Dictatorship" is a term coined in the last century to indicate a figure who, although not elected, supposedly represents the true general will. There are tendencies towards universal empires, monarchic absolutisms, theocracies, and military regimes. There are also totalitarian regimes that aim to create a new man (such as fascism, communism, and currently religious fundamentalisms).
