Abused Women
Unfortunately, battered women are a fairly common occurrence, more so than one might think. Once upon a time, it was normal, socially accepted, for a husband to beat his wife if she didn't behave well, according to his judgment. Then the idea that a woman doesn't even fight back with a flower passed from the upper classes to the entire society. So, if once the battered woman could speak out loud and the group judged whether she deserved it, now it's difficult for a woman to say. She should take drastic measures, break the relationship, and this is not always possible materially or she may not want to. So she prefers to remain silent and anyway the group then tries to reconcile the spouses with the husband who claims to be repentant.
