Fascist and Communist

One was fascist because they believed it would bring, as Mussolini said, victories on land, at sea, and in the air, and make the nation great. When instead it brought endless defeats on land, at sea, and in the air, leading to the destruction of the nation, then remaining fascist does not seem like coherence but rather imperviousness to experience. Similarly, one was communist in the 1950s because they thought it would bring prosperity and freedom to all (adda veni baffone): but when it became clear that it had brought poverty and oppression unlike ever before in history, being communist did not mean being consistent but rather being impervious to experience.
