Verdict on the Bologna Massacre

The crucial testimony for Fioravanti's conviction came from a certain Sparti, a common criminal later contradicted by his own family, who reported events later proven false and eventually retracted by Sparti himself. Just reading Wikipedia is enough to realize the unreliability of this witness. On the other hand, the appeals court acquitted them, while other courts convicted them.

How can one determine who was prejudiced and who judged objectively: the usual problem that makes many verdicts unreliable? I'm not saying Fioravanti and his associates (whether fascists, Palestinians, or Martians) were innocent, but the verdict of guilt is clearly a manipulation.
